What causes chronic relapsing pancreatitis?

Dr Anjan Dhar

Q: My 20 years old son is suffering from chronic relapsing pancreatitis. Now he is stable and taking Creon 25,000 (thrice a day) and Udilip (twice a day). His AST and ALT level are high, although other parameters of blood test are normal.

A:Chronic relapsing pancreatitis, as you are aware has a fluctuating course, and as long your son is on Creon, things should be okay. Is your son under the care of a specialist in this field, especially a Gastroenterologist, with an interest in pancreatic diseases? There are some genetic conditions that can cause this condition, after alcohol has been excluded. Tropical pancreatitis is another condition that can cause this, as can autoimmune pancreatitis.
