What care do I take for gestational diabetes?

Q: I had gestational diabetics and high blood pressure during my first son who is now one year old. Now I am again 5 weeks pregnant. I have done a glucose spot test (50 mg glucose - test after one hr). It reads 139. Can you advise me further? Also my blood pressure shoots up. I am feeling heavy heart beats, what to do further?

A:1. Since you have gestational diabetes (GDM), your chances of developing diabetes are more. Get 100 gm GTT done and get it confirmed whether you have GDM or not.2. Initially, diet control is advised but if blood sugar is not controlled then insulin should be taken to control it.
