Q: My friend recently underwent thymemectomy as a treatment for myasthenia gravis. She is worried about the consequences of thymemectomy in the long run. Please enlighten us about this.
A:The organ removed from your friend is called as thymus. This organ is situated in lower part of chest and function as immune system during early life. Thymemectomy is a standard procedure for myasthenia gravis. Removal of thymus will not make much difference to your friends health.
