Q: My 17 years old cousin is having fever for the last month with frequent backache. He was admitted in the hospital but showed no improvement and soon there was a sudden change in his mood. All the tests were negative. But last week a biopsy report revealed that he has blood cancer. He neither takes tobacco or alcohol or other similar things. What can be the causes, treatment or prevention of blood cancer?
A:Blood cancer is one differential diagnosis for un-resolving fever. You should consult a Haematologist or Haemato-oncologist for proper diagnosis of blood cancer (subtype and cytogenetics) and proper management. The association of alcohol or tobacco is usually not found with this type of blood cancer at this age. But we can only comment after definitive type of blood cancer (I guess it is acute leukaemia).
