Q: My wife's due date is near and her haemoglobin level is only 8.0. Our doctor has suggested for a blood transfusion. What all tests are requires for the donor, before transfusion?

A:As per the National Blood Safety Policy, testing of every unit of blood is mandatory for detecting infections for diseases like, hepatitis, syphilis, and malaria apart from testing for HIV. These tests are performed by the transfusion centre and you do not need to do anything.
