Urethral stricture and kidney stones

Q: I have undergone stricture urethra operation in 1988 and now regularly undergoing urethral dilatation. Is there any means where I can avoid regular urethral dilatation and get rid of this problem permanantly? I also have undergone surgery (1988) and lithotrypsy (1999) for Right kidney stone but problem was not solved. More stones have formed.

A:There is no treatment which can cure a stricture in the urethra permanently. At times, open surgery called urethroplasty can cure it depending upon the type of stricture you have. For your stone, get serum calcium, serum uric acid, serum PTH, 24 hours urine for calcium, uric acid and phosphate. If you have any report of stone analysis, that will be of great help. With all these reports, your diet and other things can be planned to prevent recurrences.
