Q: I am a 23 years old woman and 36+ weeks pregnant. In my recent ultrasound it was found that my baby is in breech position. The doctor has suggested for the caesarean delivery. This is my second pregnancy and during my first pregnancy I had a normal delivery at complete 38 weeks. Is there any chance of change in the position of fetus? I am scared of caesarean delivery. Is it necessary to go for the c-section?

A:You can have c-section very safely these days and it is safer for both baby and mother to have a caesarean. There is no need for fear as the procedure is over with 30-45 minutes and is under anaesthesia. The pain is taken care of by good painkillers and you can go home by the third day in a good condition. Rest for 15 days to a month is good with limited mobility at home and normal activity like bath, food and toilet. Additional diet to help for breast feeding and early recovery from the surgery helps. Some contraceptive like barrier methods/ DMPA injection or even permanent sterilization can be discussed with the spouse and the treating obstetrician.
