Q: My wifes (25 years old) TSH is 0.03 reference range is - 0.4 to 5.5. What does this indicate and what problems can it create in future? What is the prevention and cure for it?
A:Low TSH is indicative of thyrotoxicosis, which may be due to hyperthyroidism (ie. excess production of thyroid hormone) or thyroiditis (ie. leakage of stored thyroid hormone from thyroid gland). Differentiation is important before starting treatment. Nothing can be done to prevent the disease but the control/cure is possible.
