Is there any treatment for polycystic ovary syndrome?

Q: I am a 29 years old woman having irregular periods since the beginning. I have a lot of facial and body hair. I am unable to conceive. Now I have been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOD). The doctor has prescribed Metformin and Clomid (to be taken from the 2nd day of my menstrual cycle for 5 days). I came to know that Metformin is to reduce my insulin level in the body and Clomid is a fertility pill.

1. Is there a permanent treatment for PCOD?
2. Are these medicines helpful, or are they just a temporary solution till I can conceive?
3. Are my chances for having twins or triplets more when taking Clomid (as its a fertility pill)?
4. What are the side effects of this medicine?
5. Are the chances of miscarriage more in pregnancy for women affected by PCOD?
6. Do I continue the treatment for PCOD after I have a baby?
