Is there any treatment for polycystic ovary syndrome?
Consultant Gynaecologist & Obstetrician,
KEM Hospital, Mumbai
Q: I am a 29 years old woman having irregular periods since the beginning. I have a lot of facial and body hair. I am unable to conceive. Now I have been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOD). The doctor has prescribed Metformin and Clomid (to be taken from the 2nd day of my menstrual cycle for 5 days). I came to know that Metformin is to reduce my insulin level in the body and Clomid is a fertility pill.
A:
- No
- Temporary solutions
- Chances of twins or triplets are there.
- While taking Metformin there are chances of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
- Slightly higher chances
- There is no definite treatment as such.
