Q: Is there any medical or surgical cure for atonic bladder? I am suffering from the same for the past 4-5 years. I cannot urinate myself naturally/automatically. I have to insert a catheter to bring out urine every time. Please advise.

A:There is a method by which atonic bladder can be wrapped in a latissimus dorsalis muscle. This is a major surgery wherein muscle is transferred near bladder by microsurgical technique. It is done by very few skilled urologists, patient has to be fit enough to tolerate the long surgical procedure and should be willing to accept success of only 25-30% following surgery. I do not know whether this information would be of help to you. I think the intermittent catheter to empty bladder periodically works quite well if you get used to it.
