Q: I am a 34 years old man. I got an ultrasound done 4 years back. In the report, my left kidney measured 9.5 x 4.2 cm. But this year when I again went for the ultrasound, my left kidney was sized 83 x 41 mm. Is there any problem with my kidneys?
A:Ultrasound of any area is an operator dependent test and shows huge variability depending on many uncontrolled factors. Ultrasound needs to be interpreted not in isolation but with the other clinical details. The interpretation of your kidney size shrinking can only be done on repeat ultrasound with other clinical details, which have not been provided.
