Q: I have a 27 years old flat-mate. She is under medication for tuberculosis of the lymph node. As per her doctor, it is not active anymore but she has to continue the medication for few more months. I am worried about the spread of the infection. We live in the same apartment and share the same kitchen. Is it safe to live with someone infected with this disease?

A:You have no cause for worry. Lymph node TB is not infectious unless there is delayed treatment leading to a discharging sinus, and then too the disease is not very infectious. Also, respiratory involvement / symptoms ought to be ruled out and the patient should remain under the care of a doctor and take the medicines regularly.
