Is surgery required to treat an enlarged testicle?

Prof Suneet Sood

Q: I am a 54 years old man who had hernia and underwent a surgery for the same. But after the surgery my right testicle became a bit enlarged. On re-examination, the doctor said that it has happened due to correction of hernia by pushing it in the intestine. Now I feel uncomfortable while walking due to the heaviness of testicle. Due I have to take a surgery once again to get this corrected?

A:Testicular swelling is not unusual after hernia surgery. The swelling usually subsides in a few weeks. If you are able to tolerate the symptoms, I recommend no surgery. I realize that the symptoms have been present for two years, but I still think that you are better off without a re-operation.Do get the testicle examined carefully, however. Maybe something else is causing the swelling.
