Is primary complex contagious?

Q: We are going home for a vacation to the Philippines this year. My mother told me that my nephew who lives with my parents has primary complex, which is currently being treated. We are going to be staying in the same house. I have a 3 and a 1/2 years old daughter and 8 months old son. Is primary complex contagious? What do I need to be concerned about, since my kids will be exposed to it? Was the doctor of my nephew correct when she said it does not get transferred from a child to child?

A:Philippines is endemic for tuberculosis like India. Every second person acquires primary complex during early childhood. Most primary complexes are asymptomatic and do not require any treatment. In some cases, it is symptomatic and requires treatment. Once treatment is started it heals quickly and is not infectious at all. There is no danger to the your child! Enjoy your vacations.
