Q: I have been married for last eight years. I have no children till date. My sperm count is very low as per report of diagnostic centre. What should I do? The pathological report says: Colour is greyish white; consistency is thin; quantity is 1.6 cc approx; pH is alkaline, incubation at 37deg C for 40 minutes. Motile: 15 %, sluggish: 10 %, dead: 75 %, T. Counts: 27.5 million/cucc, M/E: 4-6 Leucocytes, 0 – 1, Epithelial Cells, 0 – 1 RBC, 2–3 broad headed spermatozoa/hpf.

A:Your counts are ok but the motility is low. You should get yourself checked up by a urologist to rule out varicocoele. If it is not there, then medical treatment may be tried. Since you are nearing 40 yrs, you should go for assisted techniques, IUI is the simplest and you can consult a gynaecologist for the same and get your wife also checked for the same. If 6 cycles of IUI fail, go in for IVF.
