Q: I am 45 years old male weighing 64 kg. I have no health problem but my recent blood test report indicates Haemoglobin - 14gms, fasting blood sugar - 113 mg, serum uric acid - 4.4 mg/dl, serum cholesterol - 211 mg/dl, serum total bilirubin - 0.7 mg/dl, SGOT - 47 IU, SGPT - 106 IU, serum Alkaline Phosphate - 171 IU. Are my reports fine?

A:The liver enzymes are elevated. It may happen in many infections which pass off on their own or may indicate a long standing problem. In the absence of any previous history of such an abnormality and in the absence of symptoms, it may be useful to undergo an ultrasound of the upper abdomen, HBsAg, anti-HCV, IgM anti HAV and IgManti HEV. It would also be useful to repeat the test of liver enzymes in due course.
