Q: I am a 24 years old female into my third month of pregnancy. I have got vaccinated against rubella infection. Would this cause problems to my baby?
A:Usually this is a rare infection, but can sometimes cause problems. If you are very concerned about it you can get the levels tested in your blood. The IgG antibodies level indicate old infection and IgM antibodies indicate recent infection. Rubella testing is not routinely done, in India, but if there is a suggestive history of pregnancy mishaps, or fever with rashes, sore throat etc, it can be done.
