Q: I am 5 months pregnant. Now I am having dental problems. It started when I conceived and I have managed without any treatment till now, since I thought it will be unsafe to the baby. Is is safe to administer local anaesthesia in case of tooth removal during pregnancy? Or shall I postpone the treatment after delivery?

A:For dental problems in pregnancy, one should consult a dentist. Pregnancy is not a contraindication for tooth extraction under local anaesthesia. It does not affect the foetus. In your case since you are young, you may not require any tooth extraction so do not postpone till delivery.
