Q: I am a 25 years old female suffering from irregular periods. I have a small uterus and both my ovaries are also small. Right now I am taking Premarin and Meprate. Can I get married? Will my reproductive life be normal after marriage?

A:Your ovaries are small and your menses are not regular. So, first and foremost, we will need to establish whether or not you have premature ovarian failure or streak ovaries. You will need to be followed with scans to establish that ovulation is, or not, occurring and if the uterus is responding to the hormones. After that pregnancy can be tried with egg forming drugs / IVF and oocyte donation, depending on whether or not the eggs are forming. Please understand that natural pregnancy can occur but after lot of treatment with high chances of failure and repeated trials, which may be expensive. The most certain way of having a child maybe adoption, in case the resources, are not available for the above treatment, or you choose not to undergo the trials of IVF.
