Is it normal to get mouth sores with dentures?

Q: My father has just got new dentures. He is getting mouth sores despite the dentist fitting and setting his dentures properly. What would be the best remedy to get rid of sores. Should he continue to wear the dentures despite sores?

A:You must use the dentures as much as possible to get used to it. Initial sores are normal. If they are troublesome use anaesthetic gels. If the sores are persistent then get the dentures relieved in those areas.
