Q: My 5 month old son appears to be salivating excessively. This happens when he is awake and there are no signs of any salivation while he is asleep. He is a caesarian baby. I do not remember having seen my daughter, who is 8 years now, salivate so much during her infancy. Is such a thing normal with babies?

A:Babies salivate/drool when teething. Some drool, whereas others do not andthis occurs when awake. Drooling starts as early as 3-4 months of age andcontinues occasionally, until almost 1 1/2 to 2 years of age.
