Q: I am taking Amaryl 1 mg x 1 tab in the morning and Amaryl tab 2 mg and Metformin 500 mg every night. My fasting blood sugar is 93. How can I stop taking the medicines and manage diabetes through diet? Initially the blood sugar was controlled by Daonil along with diet. After 5 years I didn't have to use any medicines. But I started taking them again from the past year.
A:Diabetes is a controllable but not a curable condition. Aim is to keep blood glucose within normal limits even if drug therapy is required. Hence, continue to monitor and adjust drugs to maintain blood glucose normal. Certain drugs are also given to prevent complications. I will suggest that you should take these also in consultation with your doctor.
