Dr Sangeeta Saxena

Govternment of India

Q: My two weeks old baby daughter goes off to sleep immediately after breast feeding. She doesn't burp while we try to make her burp by rubbing her back. Is burping important for the baby? If yes, then how do we induce burping?

A:It is important for the baby to burp / be burped after a feed to prevent problems of gas being accumulated in the baby’s stomach ,but in case your baby has no problems sleeping after a feed and sleeps comfortably, please allow her to sleep.
