Q: My newborn baby girl is 28 days old and her next immunisation is due in another 3 weeks. I have heard that generally babies get fever after getting vaccinated. Is this true and what precautions need to be taken?
A:Very few vaccines can lead to fever. One of them is the routine DPT vaccine in about 30% children. The more expensive a cellular DPT vaccine usually does not cause fever. If the fever occurs, it is transient and gets all right within 2 days. We can give drugs to lower fever and pain for this period.
