Q: I am 33 years old and have a 3.5 years old son. My husband is 40 and we are trying for our second child for the last 4-5 months. Do you think it is advisable to approach our family gynaecologist for some kind of medication to enhance our chances of conception? The main reason we feel is that, we are losing out on age as time is progressing. We would also like to know if this has some kind of effect on the fetus going for such drugs to enhance conception. Otherwise my husbands health & mine are perfectly normal.
A:It is too early to seek medical intervention. Please keep in mind that about 85% of women planning a family conceive in the first 12 months without any intervention. Besides, those who have had previous pregnancy do not usually need any intervention. One can follow simple advice: try in the middle of the cycle. Good Luck!
