Q: My 27 years old wife is into her 34th week of pregnancy. During her 31st week, she was diagnosed with high resistance type of flow in maternal left uterine artery and early diastolic notch. What causes it? How can we avoid this? How will this affect the baby? Is there any medicine to cure it? The baby's growth and weight is normal.

A:At this stage of pregnancy (34 weeks) as long as the baby is growing well, the liquor is adequate and more importantly if the umbilical Doppler indicesof the baby are normal do not worry. However a high resistance flow in earlypregnancy predicts a higher chance of growth restriction and raised bloodpressure later in pregnancy. Continue to follow-up with your obstetricianweekly as the last few weeks are crucial.
