Is epsolin required after brain surgery?

Q: I am a 43 years old female. After craniotomy, microsurgical tumour excision, I am advised to use epsolin 100 mg for 8 months period. Is it harmful?

A:Once there is invasive intervention (such as surgery) in the brain, the risk of seizures (fits) increases. As a preventive therapy, eptoin sodium (sold under many brands such as Epsolin, Eptoin etc.) is routinely administered. Despite its potential side effects, it is necessary to take the drug because if a seizure occurs, it is more risky than adverse effects of the drug. It would be prudent not to drive or operate machinery for the next six months.
