Q: My wife has been detected with calcification in the uterus. How dangerous is this? What are the symptoms and repercussions? Please advise. She is 28 years old and we have a 4 years old daughter.

A:Little calcification as such should not be a problem - if the calcification is within the lining of the uterus, it is better to do a hysterectomy and guided biopsy (retained products of conception after a spontaneous or induced abortion can sometimes give rise to this picture, or some other pathology can be associated with calcification). If it is within the myometrium, it is usually due to calcification within a fibroid.
