Q: I am a 32 years old housewife suffering from amyloidosis for the past ten years. Is amyloidosis curable?
A:A lot of research and clinical trials are being carried out for treatment of amyloidosis. Some therapies are directed towards relieving symptoms in various organs including kidney and heart. Patients have received melphalan and dexamethasome (steroids), other chemotherapy agents for treatment. Stem cell therapy is being attempted in centres like Mayo clinic for amyloid. From a stage of no treatment options some years ago to some treatments available now, research and progress are being made.
