Is a sympathectomy surgery safe?

Q: I am due to have a sympathectomy surgery for excessive blushing and I know, if successful, this will change my life forever for the better. However, I seem to have an overriding fear of hospitals, doctors and most of all, surgery. I want so much to have this operation but I am scared of everything from the admission, the anaesthetic and the after effects. I know this is silly but I wondered if you could give me some words of encouragement - especially that I won't die from the operation. Also, please give some strategies to help myself through this.

A:The procedure you are undergoing is a routine surgery. There is no prolonged hospitalisation and long recovery period. The effects of surgery are seen almost immediately. Hospitals are also making all efforts to be patient friendly. You may actually find the experience pleasant if you go with the understanding that everyone in the hospital is there to help you. Discussing all your doubts with your doctor and nursing staff will help. Just remember they have your well being as their priority. Wish you best of luck and a speedy recovery.
