How to treat white spots?

Q: I have two whitish spots on my penis, fingers and knees, which have been there for the last 15 years. There is no pain or itching. Is there any permanent solution for this problem? Please guide me about the disease and the possible solution.

A:One of the possibilities is that you have vitiligo. You can take treatment if you are bothered by the patches on the visible parts of the body. Psoralens are the mainstay of treatment. Local steroids may also be used concomitantly. Small white lesions can also be seen in guttate hypomelanosis, lichen sclerosis et atrophicus and few others.
