A:You may probably be referring to Candida infection which is an infection caused by a yeast (a type of fungus) - Candida albicans being the most common species, though other species like Candida tropicalis, Candida krusei, Candida mallei, etc are also implicated in human infections. These infections can occur in almost any part of the body including skin (usually associated with moist skin areas or macerated/damaged skin) and mucous membranes. The treatment depends on the type of infection, location in the body, patients clinical condition, the species implicated, etc. Anti-fungals used for treatment include Amphotericin B (mainly for systemic infections), Ketoconazole, Fluconazole, Miconazole, Itraconazole, etc. In the absence of clinical details, specific information cannot be provided.
