Q: My son has a hole in his neck whose size is about a needle point. Mucus with a sticky substance comes out which I usually clean with cotton. The age of my son is 3+ months. Please tell me what is this, will it be life-long and what is the remedy?
A:From what you describe, this appears to be a bronchial sinus. These aresmall openings usually on one side of the centre. They discharge whitishfluid off and on. These are birth defects. The only remedy is to remove themby an operation. The operation is done under general anaesthesia, and is arelatively safe procedure.
