How to manage non-healing wounds?

Prof Suneet Sood

Q: I have a wound under the great toe of my right leg, which is not healing. I have checked with a skin specialist and took treatment for three years for leprosy. I do not have diabetes or blood pressure. My leg is also ok but the wound is not healing and nor getting dry. Please suggest the treatment or medicines for my problem.

A:It is difficult to answer without actually seeing the lesion. Some causes of non-healing are:- active disease, such as leprosy, other chronic infection.- very large wound.- scarcity of blood supply to that area.- adherence of bone to the wound.Have you consulted a plastic surgeon? He may be able to help. Plastic surgery is cumbersome, but has a good success rate.
