How to manage low TSH levels?

Dr Smita Gupta

Q: My 35 years old husband’s TSH levels are 60.5. He is taking the medicine prescribed by his doctor. Will his condition get cured?

A:Your husband has underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). This condition is not cured, but easily controlled and managed by thyroid hormone replacement therapy which your husband has probably started. A TSH, T4 should be done after 6 weeks of any dose adjustment to ensure that he is getting the appropriate amount of thyroid hormone therapy. This medication is very safe and does not have any side effect in the majority of patients
