Dr Rishi Parashar

Q: My wife has an allergy on her heels. She has applied many ointments, as suggested by the doctor, but to no avail. The dry skin attracts a lot of itching in the area. There is temporary relief after applying the cream. Please advise.

A:Most likely she may be suffering from neurodermatitis. Because of itch focus over heel in your wife's case, she scratches the site and sets in vicious itch cycle. She need prolonged treatment with steroid salicylic acid combinations with or with out occlusion and tar therapy. To control itch, antihistamines can be used. For details consult your dermatologist.
