How to manage frequent urination?

Q: My father had a prostate problem and after knowing this we got him operated at Kidney Hospital, Jalandhar, Punjab from Dr. Chahal & Dr. Rajesh Aggarwal in January, 2000. But after surgery, the main problem of frequent urination still persists. Whenever we visit any hospital, after examining all reports and new tests, some medicines are prescribed which have been of no use. After that operation I get my father examined at Shimla and Ropar but nothing happened. I am very worried about it because he goes to the toilet after almost every hour and is unable to sleep soundly. My father has hypertension for which he takes medicine daily but has no diabetes. Please advise us. Presently my posting is at Shimla and my father lives with me. Pushpinder Joshi

A:I know how bothersome intense frequency of urine could be. Your father could be helped to improve his present state of health. He would require a very close look, urodynamic investigations and following that some drug therapy. You should take him to the urology department in any one of the three major postgraduate institutes in Chandigarh, Delhi or Lucknow.
