How to manage cow milk allergy in children?

Dr Satish Saluja

Q: My friends son is 9 months old, and he has milk protein allergy. The doctors in the U.S.A. prescribed him Simlac Alimentum (hypoallergenic protein hydrolysate formula for food allergies and colic due to protein sensitivity - easy to digest). Is there any equivalent available for this in India as she is visiting India now?

A:If the child has cow milk allergy you have to eliminate cow milk and its products from his diet. As such he is 9 months old and can do without milk. There is equivalent formula available in India as you got from USA, what you could try is Soy milk based formula like Nusobee or Zerolac but some of these babies may even be allergic to these. You can feed him non milk based diet.
