Q: I am a 21 years old boy with a good height, descent physique and a good complexion. I don't have any problems with my studies or my family background. But I suffer from inferiority complex. I always get this feeling that there is something wrong with me, either in my appearance or the way I communicate. I look absolutely alright. Yet I develop a complex whenever I come across other boys of my age who seem more physically fit than me or who seem to be more smart or aggressive than me. I genuinely feel that this problem is the biggest obstacle for me in the path of my progress and I want to get rid of it. Kindly give me the necessary support that I require at this stage.

A:What you mention is an anxiety manifestation, wherein you have social anxiety about facing others, and also a definite low self esteem where you do not have a positive sense of self. What you need to think is that, all people are different, in terms of their physique, and no two people look same. So the comparison can be endless and fruitless. You need to focus on your positives and start believing in them and do not let your thoughts interfere with your life. Relaxation exercises, cognitive behaviour therapy and medications under a psychiatrist would also help.
