How can persistent fever be managed?

Dr Monica Mahajan
Associate Director,
Internal Medicine,
Max Hospital, New Delhi

Q: I am a 36 years old male weighing 66 kg. I am suffering from persistent fever for the past a month. Almost all the tests have been done that were suggested by the doctor. All the tests came normal. The doctor is unable to diagnose the problem due to fever. Nowadays, I am feeling very tired and have lost weight also. The doctor has suggested me to take Crocin whenever feel like having fever. How can persistent fever be treated permanently?

A:Since you have persistent fever and weight loss, I assume that you would have received broad-spectrum antibiotics and there is no response. You have not mentioned the details of the investigations done. You have to rule out any chronic infections including TB as well as any other causes of weight loss. Doing tests like Mantoux, CT scan chest, malaria antigen and thyroid profile maybe useful.
