Q: My 35 years old sister has been diagnosed with pemphigus vulgaris for the last one and a half years. Now it has spread to her mouth and some parts of the body too. How can pemphigus vulgaris be managed? The doctor has prescribed Ceftum 250.
A:Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune, vesiculobullous disorder, which is usually a lifelong disorder. Steroids are the mainstay of treatment. There are various regimens for giving it. With pulse therapy, long term remission can be achieved in a significant number of cases. Other immunosuppressive, steroid sparing drugs are also required in most cases. Antibiotics are required for superimposed bacterial infections. Nursing care should be good.
