Q: According to a doctor, my brother's kidney is affected due to high levels of creatinine. As per the ultrasound, his one kidney is bigger than the other one. He is currently taking in Cordycep to reduce his creatinine level. Will this help him recover? If he stops taking the medicines, his creatinine level suddenly rises. What can be done to reduce his creatinine level and make him well?
A:Serum creatinine is an indirect marker of kidney function. High creatinine is a result of kidney dysfunction. There is no drug, which reduces serum creatinine. Improvement in kidney function will occur if the underlying kidney disease is treated & recovers. Recovery and prognosis depends on the specific disease affecting the kidney and one needs to know that disease.
