Q: I am a 25 years old married woman and have noticed that I don’t have bladder control just after my periods got over yesterday. I feel like using the washroom every 5 minutes without much urine output. This is causing me a lot of discomfort and hindering my work. Is this normal or do I need to get myself checked? Please advise.

A:Urinary frequency and urgency may result either from increased bladder sensations as may happen with infections or reduced bladder sensations with resulting incomplete bladder emptying. Urinary frequency and urgency of sudden origin close to periods is more likely to be due to urinary tract infection or urethritis. You certainly need examination and investigations like urine routine and culture, apart from a gynaecological evaluation.
