Q: How to decrease or control the level of blood urea?

A:Blood urea and creatinine levels are used as indirect markers of kidney function. There is no drug, which specifically controls urea and creatinine. It is important to find out the cause of raised urea and creatinine and treat the cause. Kidney disease may cause irreversible damage, which often progresses leading to progressive deterioration of kidney function. It is often possible to slow down the rate of deterioration of kidney function especially impeccable control of blood pressure, lipids, diabetes (if present) stop smoking, avoid drugs which aggravate kidney disease. All these measures are helpful in controlling blood urea.
