Genital herpes
Q: Is genital herpes curable? What are the causes for this? What precaution to be taken to avoid a repeated attack?
A:Herpes Genitalis is a life long disease which recurs at varying intervals. The severity of the relapse also varies. In most of the cases it resolves on its own. Medicines are given to lessen the discomfort, shorten the course of the relapse and to reduce the degree of infectivity. Depending upon the kind of relapse medicines are chosen. Generally antivirals applied locally suffice, however at times they may have to be given orally. Usually Acyclovir preparations are used. In case there are complications, e.g. secondary superimposed infection, antibiotics may also have to be given. There's no dietary modification to be made as such.
