Does zinc help reduce herpes recurrence?

Q: I am a 25 years old man who has been treated for type 2 herpes recently. I took treatment for the same and am feeling fine now. Currently, I am taking Zincari (for building immunitye system). Should I continue taking this? I read that Zinc, vitamin C and exercises, etc. help to control herpes. Please advise.

A:Unfortunately claims by commercial manufacturers of many OTC (over the counter) products promoted aggressively are not required to be verified by drug control authorities. There is no scientific evidence in support of the claims made by manufacturers of Zinc supplements. Zinc, in traces, and vitamin C required by the body is adequately sourced from normal food.
