Does the boil near my anus need to be operated?

Dr Francis Seow-Choen
Associate Professor, Mt. Elizabeth Medical Centre, Singapore

Q: I am a 49 years old. I have recently developed a boil just at the opening of anus. My doctor says that it is a blood clot of anal vein and has occurred due to straining during motions. There is no pain or bleeding. Should I go for operation to remove the boil or will it go away on its own?

A:It will go away on its own. But you should avoid fibre as it will definitely make the swelling worse as these fibre bulks up the stool.
