Dr Sujata Sawhney

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital,
New Delhi

Q: My son’s ASO Titre is 480 and throat swab shows enterococci and now rheumotologist treating him with Azithromycin. What problem does he have? Please help me.

A:An elevated ASO titre in isolation is of no significance and may need a course of antibiotics for 7-10 days if there is a recent throat infection and the throat swab grows streptococci not enterococci which may be a normal commensal organism that should not adversely affect the child.
