Q: I am 80 years old. Three years back I underwent an operation for prostate cancer. PSA is now benign. I am taking one tablet of Casodex 50 mg daily. Recently, I had urinary problem because the prostate had enlarged. I was prescribed Flotral 10 mg tablet, to be taken once daily. Can Flotral shrink the prostate or is an operation necessary?
A:If you have had prostate removal surgery for your prostatic cancer, you will not need prostate removal until you have developed some narrowing of urethra. However, if your testicles have been removed as a treatment for prostate cancer, you might require a surgery to remove the obstructive element of your prostate.
