Q: My daughter is around 7 weeks pregnant. She had taken Ovigyn injections for two months prior to pregnancy as the doctor said that this would enhance ovulation (she has no problems ovulating). Now, the doctor has advised to take Ovigyn injections once every week for the first twelve weeks of pregnancy. Please advise if this is required. Are there any associated side effects of this?

A:Your daughter must have an ultrasound scan at 7 weeks and if the babys growth is fine she does not need any HCG support at all. Any ways this injection does not work after 8 weeks of pregnancy as there is no corpus luteum after this period. Moreover, whenever this injection is needed it is given twice a week and not once a week.
